Hi everyone,

Thx Daggerfall for a great drive. it was really enjoyable and relaxing. Although I was so sleepy when I arrived that I barley was able to talk,... but after a couple of dunes I woke up.

Every drive I found something new about my driving and my car. This time, I found that I need a little bit more momentum, speed, then Jeeps, cause my car is heavier and if there is not enough speed I just start to slide down the crest. I was always on the bumper of the Jeep in front of me. He was gliding through the dunes, and I was slicing them :))))

Anyway, as I said very nice drive. And of course, the usual pics....

Hi Almosters,

Another pleasant drive with Daggerfall supported by Presa and Solmaz. As usual, the track to pink rock and back to albadayer was very nice with few slides and we all did very well except that I have lost my car number plate followed by a stuck later.

My brother have joined me this trip and he was amazed how the group is organized and supportive. He took few blurry photos that I love to share with you here.

Good morning all!

We met at Badayer shops very early in the morning when the weather was nice and cool, soon splitting into 2 convoys, one led by Booy and the other led by Daggerfall.

I was in Booys convoy, and this trip was to Pink Rock and back. The convoy did so well in the early stages that we were approaching Pink Rock way too soon, so Booy adjusted the level a little and found some interesting little places to play and test the skills of the convoy.

Everyone managed the climb up Pink without any hassles, however after we set off from Pink, things began to happen! We had a few second tries when climbing the dune above "the rock" and also a popout due to too sharp a turn.

Things continued to go a little downhill after that, the distance discipline was lacking, the gaps were too huge, people lost the track, the convoy was stretched over about 2km, the radio comms was poor. All this added up to a potentially dangerous situation that was narrowly avoided, thankfully.

I won't dwell on it any further as i think Booy made the point clear on the day, and in his report.

All in all, a really good morning out in the sand, and apart from the issues mentioned the vast majority did very well and handled the track without too many problems!!

Everything in life has a reason behind it or has some worthiness to it. What we say, what we do, everything.

Having worked till 3 am the night before I could hardly catch some sleep and missed the suhour as well as my alarm, I woke up and it was 6:00 AM. At this very moment I started thinking, I haven’t slept properly for the past few days due to work, I am tired, sleep deprived and have extremely low chances of reaching on time. Is the drive really worth it ?

I still push on, get ready and drive as possibly safe and fast as I can to reach on time (39 minutes from Al Nahda 1 - Dubai to Al Badayer Shops). while I was driving frantically on E44 and I receive a message from OPTIMUS saying “we are about to leave in 5 minutes”, just then HAKKOUM zooms by me. I press the O/D OFF button, OUTLAW shifts into a lower gear and charges towards HAKKOUM like a cheetah suddenly speeding up to catch his prey. A little race before we catch up with the convoy was an unexpectedly good start to a weekend. (thanx for the adrenaline HAKKOUM, it helped me stay awake)

I turn into the parking lot and I see DAGGERFALL’s convoy driving off into the sand and YOGHYBEAR standing on top of the hill. Outlaw screeches into a parking spot and I jump out and wave at Yoghy just to make sure he has spotted me. I deflate as fast as I can, get the flag up, jump back in and floor it. Finally I had joined the convoy, sometime later just as I was going up the first tiny climb of about 2 meters I realized that I forgot to engage the 4 wheel drive. I guess the race and the catching up did get me into a frantic state of mind, so I calmed myself down, engaged the 4Wheel and drove on.

The drive was again an amazing one, it had sidewalls, big bowls, steep climbs etc. I did notice a bit of wheel spin in the first 20 minutes of the drive, which was also pointed out by PRESA so I deflated further down to 10psi at the next opportunity. PRESA also pointed out that the only time Outlaw was stuck was because of my own stupid mistake of not keeping the safe distance or stopping at some really bad angles. But to my surprise Outlaw pulled himself out without much effort. Good old 4L 1st gear trick worked like a charm everytime.

At one point I was the last car of the convoy and there was a white patrol in front of me who had to do a second try on a climb and by the time he got around the second try the convoy had already gone out of sight so it was just him, me and SOLMAZ left behind. Now normally when you see someone do a second try on a climb, you naturally tend to take on that climb with more power just to make sure that you will reach the top on the first try. So naturally when it was my turn I did the same, I use a little more power than required and reached the top safely without any flying or any drama. That’s what I thought.

I reached that blind spot where your car is facing the sky and the tip of the climb has disappeared below your bonnet, for that tiny bit of a moment you are driving pretty much blind folded because all you can see is the sky and the tip of the dune is beneath your car. All you can do is wait for the nose to drop and only then you know what’s on the other side.
We all have those moments in our lives where something very bad and that is not in your control happens in an extremely quick snap of a moment. Like you are walking on a street and maybe a flower pot falls from a window right on your head or may be you are having a lovely picnic and suddenly a football comes from no where and hits you in the face or worst in the batteries. Some call it bad luck, some call it being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The important part is how you deal with it.

I always thought that I am one of those few brave ones who have quick reflexes and can react fast enough to save myself, damn those Hollywood movies because as soon as Outlaw dropped his nose back down. All I remember seeing was the iconic Jeep grill about 3 metres away from me driving straight at me. I smashed the brakes as hard as I could, shut my eyes and tried to push myself as far away from the steering wheel as possible. Like as if that is gonna save my life. Luckily I stopped with my eyes shut like a coward and the Jeep driver managed to miss me by a few feet because probably he was one of those few who have lighting fast reflexes and can react fast enough in situations like these.

By this time Solmaz spotted a few more Jeeps coming my way and radioed me to stop, I guess she didn’t know that I had already met the leader of the convoy and was now holding on to the steering wheel so tight that my knuckles had become white, scared to even move a muscle. I was so scared that even when the Jeep convoy had passed by I barely managed to radio to Solmaz to climb up and take the lead as there were multiple tracks and I didn’t know where that white patrol or the rest of our convoy went. Solmaz took the lead and we joined the convoy again.

We stopped at the top of Pink rock and discussed about the drive and the do’s and don’ts of it and then continued our way back.

We came to a big climb where there were quite a few second tries by a few other drivers and one of them went airborne as well (all four up). But then there were those who had to take several tries because there was not much of space before the climb to gain speed. When it was my turn I floored outlaw on second gear and he climbed with no complaints but then just as I reached the top I released the accelerator a little too much and got crested. I guess my fear of going airborne got the better of me but then again I shift into 4L reverse and outlaw pulls himself out without any drama.

We finished the drive as planned and on time, although the drive back home was a complete blur because the only sleep I got in the last 48 hours was less than 3 hours before the drive and by now all the adrenaline and excitement had drained out. I reach home, take a nice hot shower and barely drag myself on the bed.

Just like a blossoming flower my face glows into a big smile because everything we do in life has a reason behind it or has some worthiness to it. What we say, what we do, everything and this drive was definitely worth pushing myself out of bed even after sleeping for less than 3 hours and literally slapping myself to stay awake while trying to catch the convoy.

As always an amazing drive. The early bit were about tricky because of the climbs and all the cross tracks that we had in front of us, though it went out smoother down line. We had a couple of second tries but overall everyone managed to plow through!

Hi all,

it was another pleasant drive. Myself and Gabriel we had a struggle to get off our beds in the morning.
We managed, glad went out rather than wasting a beautiful morning in bed.

We started from the visit to petrol station and I found that Optimus shared his live location on Telegram. Although I am careful with online privacy topics, I gave it a go too and for some reason I really liked it seeing Optimus and another member (sorry I forgot who that was) on the map either in front or behind us approaching the meeting point.
At some point I lost the view of Optimus driving behind me, I waited on the hard shoulder to only find out later, that he stopped over to fill up his fuels tank.

The drive was smooth and quite easy. What I keep learning is the feel for the weight of the car and its balance vs. power output and various surface inclinations.

Thank you Marshals, Inters, Crew and other club seniors to look after us and spending your time teaching us.
