We all met at Al Badayer shops at 8:00 , deflate the tyres , a briefed briefing and off to hit the dunes , A smooth & fast track ( Safari style roller coaster ) was used to introduce the fresh bees to the basic skills of offroading . Although such tracks are meant to be fast paced , the convoy pace was slow at times and steady at others due to the " extra rounds " & " second attempts " occurred . In such level drives its expected to have all kinds of stuck and suffering extra rounds as the drivers are inexperienced and the " panicking " behavior is at the peak . in order to minimize such problem , I want to emphasize the highlight of the drive .

Marshals Instructions

To reduce the risk generated by panic , there is a three steps plan to overcome the situation :-

1- Awaiting Instructions ,
While driving in the convoy and ending up in a situation that needs attention ,( such as stuck , pop out , second round ...etc .) just stop , report your concern over the radio and wait for instructions by the marshals . Any attempt to resolve the problem on your own at this level may lead to catastrophic results ( rollover , collision with other cars or at least digging yourself deep enough where self recovery will be useless )

2- Listen & Analyze ,
Marshals will always be there for your help , they will provide valuable info through instructions , Listen carefully and analyze the info . If you feel unsure , please ask again for clarification , more explanation or even a repeat . Don't start the action until you are sure of what is required from you to do . ( if the Marshal is asking you to turn the steering wheel to the left , then its your left hand side , not his .)

3- Implement ,
At this step you will start the action as you have been instructed . More instructions will follow when the action starts , Don't be afraid to follow them , you are in safe hands ( While performing self recovery and the car start moving slowly, Marshal says " Floor It " , just press the accelerator pedal all the way in . " pedal to the floor " )

Now back to the trip , we reached the peak of Pink Rock at around 09:30 , small break for refreshments and photos , off to higher dunes followed by big climb , hitting Pink Rock again and back to al badayer at 11:00

Thank you to all participants for a great drive ( no pop outs and one single rescue ) . Special thanks to Kerpas for being my second lead and an endless gratitude to Al Shamsi and Yoghy for the endless support .

See you soon in sand .

Thank you Abu Jimmy very much for this drive. It is very generous from the club management to have 5 events in the same weekend. Camping and night drive then in the morning two drives and afternoon also.
We really appreciate your efforts, hopping not to disappoint you and to make you proud of your club members.
regards,,,

Another great newbie -5 drive, 2nd week in a row is Fantastic. Thanks to Abu Jimmy, alshamsi_m and Yoghybear.

Here's my trip report and I will jump to my lessons learned.

1. Listening to Marshall - I noticed that when the convoy is moving nicely the Marshal are quiet and watching. But when an instructions is given (by the Marshals), acknowledgement is very important.

2. Floor it! Floor it! - it may not be the best instructions to hear but I kind a like the sound of it. It's like the go signal to speed-up is given and you can push your car hard-carefully but not too gentle. Watching from a distance, I saw the reason why the Marshals says FLOOR IT! the vehicle is really moving slow uphill and will not make it on top.

My Bonus!!! This drive I manage to have a sneak peak on Yoghybear maneuvers in the sand carefully watching every car in the convoy.

Happy reads! Cheers!

Nice and important !

Additionally when Marshal says "Turn your wheels to the left", it means you must turn them to the left and not to the right, there is no negotiation, unless you forgot where is your left and right at your adrenaline and panicking peak.

First a Big Thank you to Abu Jimmy, Chief and Yoghybear. Sleek sand was infact a good learning experience as Newbie 5- .

Chief and Abu Jimmy's instructions are well noted to move way ahead, in the hands of Almost 4x4 Family.

Thank you once again and see you in sand soon.

Sleek Sand drive shows some differences in driving level, which I don't thinks it was due to the driving skills but more on that some of us were over caring for their vehicles
Most of us are using their cars for normal day to day activities as well as for off roading
Treating our cars must be different in the desert otherwise it will be another slow and many recovery drive
Thanks everyone for your company
Special thanks to all Marshals for their valuable instruction and for taking care of us in the sands

Yesterday I gave my car a good treatment (Extreme inside, outside and engine wash) after removing out all off roading and camping gears
