Another reason for me to sleep in my car... Next will be desert parking tickets?
Yeah, yeah, I know this probably only applies to those semi-permanent tents, but it's so ambiguous that it was worth to mention.

The municipality of Dubai has said campers planning to set up tents in uninhabited outdoor spaces in Dubai, especially desert areas, will soon have to obtain a permit from the civic body, Khaleej Times has reported. According to the decision, which coincides with the commencement of the winter camping season, people seeking to put up tents have to obtain a prior occupancy permit, which will be valid for six months and will not be beyond the end of April every year. The ordinance has also stipulated 22 fils per square metre, collected under the name of 'land occupancy entertainment' fee.
And from Khaleej Times:
Campers who want to pitch tents in uninhabited outdoor spaces in Dubai, especially desert areas, will soon have to obtain a permit from the municipality.
An administrative ordinance to this effect was issued on Sunday by Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, to streamline temporary occupancy of uninhabited plots of land and outdoor spaces.
The decision, which coincides with the comTmencement of the winter camping season, stipulates that the municipality must enforce the provisions streamlining the tentative use of land stated in the local order No. (2) for 1999 and the administrative order No. (310) for 2008 with respect to outdoor camping and installation of tents on the outskirts of Dubai for recreational and picnicking purposes.
According to the order, whoever wants to put up a tent has to get a prior occupancy permit. The maximum permit term will be six months and it will not be beyond the end of April every year.
The area of land for which a permit is issued must not be larger than 300 square metres.
Further, a camper must comply with the environmental, health, structural and planning conditions set by the municipality during the period of stay. When they vacate the plot, it should be returned to the previous state.
The ordinance has also stipulated 22 fils per square metre, collected under the name of ‘land occupancy entertainment’ fee.
The municipality will coordinate with the bodies concerned for conserving the environment, maintaining cleanliness and protecting health and public safety, and lay down a supervisory and controlling mechanism on tents to ensure that campers comply with the conditions.
