if you are looking for a good radio with a reasonable price then go for UHF Quanshing or Crony ... it is only 160 dhs for one unit and you can get a car charger for 10 dhs

i bought a Walkie Takie brand iCom UHF/VHF Transceiver with a better range and battery life
the guy told me its much much better than Quansheng
any comments,!!
And please help me on how to use it when we meet for our next trip
thanks :D
I have an iCom, just the big one.
Never been happier.
One thing that I would recomend is to disable the uhf.
In the UAE uhf is used for the police, military and aviation bands.
The authoroties dont like it so much when you as a member of the public have access to these.
After a lot of googling and reading the manual a few times I was able to set the min and max search frequencies on my radio.
No if the police want to question me I can at least try and plea my case.

Mukhalati IS RIGHT
if you want to use your conventional radios with no issues I suggest applying for a radio and frequency license at TRA but I’m not sure if they will issue radio license for anyone.
I don't think you are right about this point because police radios system is totally different ... Ultra high frequency + very high frequency are conventional radios (analog) but as per my information most radios users are using digital radios now in dubai and north emirates but only in Abudhabi they are using the digital radios for army and police.Mojo;6134 wrote:I have an iCom, just the big one.

No I know this for certian.
I asked one of the air trafic controlers that work here in al ain.
I am sure I even had a list of the frequencies uses.
Will have a look for it and post it up.

Right, here it is as set out in the TRA Private Mobile Radio (PMR) Service from December 2009
Permitted Usage
2.1 Usage of private mobile radio is allowed for the following, subject to terms and
conditions as given on the TRA Authorization and applicable Regulatory Instruments.
2.1.1 Land mobile radio.
2.1.2 Aeronautical mobile radio (Ground –to –Air)
2.1.3 Maritime mobile radio (Shore –to- ship)
2.1.4 In house Paging systems.
2.1.5 Trunking mobile radio systems.7
Article (3)
Radio Frequency usage
Frequency sub-bands Radio Services
2-30 MHz - AERONAUTICAL MOBILE (Ground to Air)
- LAND MOBILE
- MARITIME MOBILE (Shore to Ship)
30- 47 MHz - LAND MOBILE
66-87.5 MHz - LAND MOBILE
117.975 – 137 MHz - AERONAUTICAL MOBILE (R)
137-144 MHz - LAND MOBILE
- AERONAUTICAL MOBILE (OR)
146-156 MHz - LAND MOBILE
- MARITIME MOBILE
156-162.1 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Only on Secondary Basis and areas away from UAE waters)
- MARITIME MOBILE
162.1-174 MHz - LAND MOBILE
- MARITIME MOBILE
350-380 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Camel racing on secondary basis with prime use by Government)
380-400 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Trunking for Government use)
400.15 - 406 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Only on Secondary Basis and with protection to Met Aids)
406.1-410 MHz - LAND MOBILE (With maximum radiated power of 5 Watts)
410-430 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Trunking for Commercial use)
Also used for non-Trunking duplex Assignments
430-433.05 MHz - LAND MOBILE
433.05 – 434.79 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Short range devices)
434.79 - 450 MHz - LAND MOBILE
450-470 MHz - LAND MOBILE (Government use)
So I need to correct myself a little.
UHF = "Ultra" High Freq. 0.3 --> 3Ghz
VHF = "Very" High Freq. 30 --> 300Mhz
Most of the ones that we have access to are VHF altho we can get onto a few of the UHF bands.
We just need to be a little more careful which one we use, cause our usual 465.710 actually falles into the goverment use catagory.
