I've found this drive to be less speedy and I think that's the right way to go with a 50+ car convoy! I'm also starting to enjoy these drives with less speed, just being with the club and driving safely in the desert while enjoying your expensive hobby is truly amazing :like:

We set out from Maliha Rd and ended up a little close to Badayer shops and what happened in between, was just beautiful. We were split into 5 convoys - each convoy with its own leader, sweepers and rescue team. If any convoy struggled or was held up, the convoys behind it were allowed to take over - unless it was the first convoy, then you stop and wait.

I was in the 3rd convoy lead by Mazaaj, swept by Ginger, rescued by Hockey, and held up by me :hidden: along the way, I could hear the tire (as if rubber was chewing itself somehow) so I requested a small break to check my tire pressure. I heard correct - my front right tire needed some air and so, as fast as I could, I pulled out the air compressor and started pumping. (Thank you Hockey and Mark for your help during this time!) I was done and putting back the compressor when I realize everyone in front of us had moved :OSMILEY: it was on me to re-join the convoy and off I went! I enjoyed that drive because it was pushing my car and my skill set to the limits....followed the tracks and re-connected with the rest. I've also encountered a light which I do not like to see in the desert - fuel low! Luckily we were towards the end and there was nothing to worry about.

After the great drive and action, we pulled over for the chit chat and "camp". I moved around a little bit and talked to many members but I have to admit, I really enjoyed my chat with Abu Jimmy! His knowledge mashallah amazes me and I look forward to having a similar chit chat with all seniors in the club and pick their brains on this hobby

Lessons I've learned - when you stop at a gas station, don't just buy your snacks and refreshments.....fuel up as well!! I've also learned some new limits to my car and some new techniques in driving within a large convoy as well as next steps in building my Jeep!

Thank you organizers, founders, marshalls, sweepers, rescuers, drivers, and all members!

Very much love and sincere apologies for the boring details in my report

At the meeting point it was great to see so many members gathered for the drive. It is an impressive sight to see so many off road vehicles collected in one place at one time. Passersby were stopping to take pictures of the gathering.

The marshals organized us into 1 x 5 convoy. Also An impressive sight. We started out somewhere in the middle and when we came up on a rise all you could see is off roaders snaking out both front and back. Everyone performed well with very few people getting stuck.

The track varied over the trip with the first part being quite easy then progressively getting tougher as we approached 2 December and Pink Rock. In this trip I got to use the skills from the previous 7. It was a faster trip than before. The Jeep was, at times, using the full throw of the suspension. Might have to upgrade that soon along with reinforcing the front axle.

Once into the bigger dunes, the sand was softer. Got to practice kicking the back end around, in the hairpin turns. Was able to keep to the track better than before in those tight turns. Great photos Armin and Duli. Hope you don’t mind if I download a few for my collection.

One bad pop out put Shamsi’s group out of commission for a bit. We had one Hummer pickup truck fire it’s side air bags (that is going to be expensive). I am going to start pulling the airbag fuse as well as the traction control fuse. Mok has a slow leak in the front right tire, but a quick pit stop fixed that. Mok, you did a great job getting us caught up to the convoy.

The gathering afterwards, was my first with the club. Great conversation, great food , great shisha and great company. The wife and our passenger thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Thanks Armin for the fire.

Thanks Bu Shahid for the track print. Always enjoy seeing it in the trip reports.

Thanks marshals and organizers. Thanks fellow drivers and guests. Great day in the sand.

It's been a long time since i wrote a trip report. My laziness has some role in it but more than that i am having hard time juggling the new job, house and family lately. Sometimes it feels like my life is just work, work, work, than work at home then eat and sleep. But thanks to Almost i have a thing to look forward to every weekend at least!! You guys really made a difference in our lives. When chief wrote "Welcome to your second family" after my first post in here, i wasn't really expecting this much :)
Ok, enough with the girltalk, here is my report:
I was in Al Shamsi's group at the end of the convoy. I was really looking forward to drive with him since that drive Agalon made with him -Fun Drive Reloaded i suppose-. i was so jealous that day!!! So i literally danced when i hear my name in the list. Ofcourse there are ups and downs of being 50+ convoy. In many places our pace was slower then expected. At one point we used the advantage of being the last group and stopped for a chit chat so that we could have some distence between the rest of the convoy. From that point to the Camel Rock it was a fast paced fun drive. I was the second lead and had struggled to keep up with Al Shamsi from time to time. Near the Camel Rock we passed some nice and challenging bowls. After that convoy has stopped due to the airbag incident and we noticed that Tuba has a nasty nasty pop-out. -You can see it in Armin's photos- We were thinking about changing the whole tyre but Al Shamsi came and told that it is fixable! (For me it looked like a lost cause but they really DID fixed it!!) While our team was working on the pop-out, rest of the convoy moved on. After that we took a different route to catch the convoy. For a while we were driving in an area where there were no tracks, no geographical waypoints. I had the chance to watch Al Shamsi find his way through the dunes. It is a skill that i want to learn soon!! Rest of the trip was straightforward and fast, my main concern was not to be a "flying FJ" over the small dunes that we pass on the track :)

By the way nearly after an hour into the drive I suddenly noticed that i am not afraid of cresting any more!! I dont know when and how it happened but it was my worst nightmare from the start and now it is gone :)

Thanks to all marshals and fellow Almosters for this fun trip. I am too shy to say it out loud but it is really a privilege to drive with you guys :)

The part with the sunset over dunes impressed me at its most!!! Having in mind, that I have just arrived from cold Russian North, faced the heat and marvellous sunset! What a change! Thank you everyone once again for the warm family spirit, help, support, food and drinks! Great people make the life great!
