Al Wagan Free Stylet 4.0
I arrived arrived at the campsite late on Friday night and struggled to locate it hidden between tall dunes with almost vertical slopes. The only sign that I’d made it was a small campfire glowing faintly in the darkness. Once gathered around the campfire, the mood was light, humorous, and relaxed—an ideal start to the weekend.
Despite heavy fog for those choosing to drive from Dubai on Saturday morning, the convoy assembled on time and was ready for an adrenaline filled day. Shamzi led our convoy and selected the pace perfectly, gradually adapting difficulty to match the convoy’s experience. The terrain was a mix of tight technical dunes and large sweeping ones, with plenty of bushes thrown in for added flavor. Our lead managed to navigate the terrain (including the bushes) so as to create smooth flow while keeping the drive exciting, but always controlled.
A major highlight was conquering the stadium bowl at break-neck speeds, engines roaring at full revs. The momentum was addictive, and finding several similar bowls along the route just amplified the thrill with our convoy tackling each one with growing confidence and precision.
As the day progressed into afternoon, the convoy slipped into a true flow state: radio silence, focused driving, seamless lines through technical dunes, confident bold climbs on big soft slopes, and graceful side-cresting across razor-sharp ridges. It was wonderful to see and wonder to experience.
Thanks to the explorers for their support throughout the long day: David, Carlos & Ehab
And to the main convoy for the good company and camaraderie: Ahmed, Alex and Piotr.
Looking forward to our next adventure… that’s if Rathica lets me borrow her car again after watching the videos of the trip
