Hello everyone,
It was the day, I was waiting for for a long time. Last time in this area, I broke my car (again), so I was looking to settle old 'bills'
What more to ask for, then a whole day exploration drive with such company!
And what a blast, going thru those dune chains, sweeping from one crest to another, with speeds you can only see in your imagination. And now, we were doing it ourselves!
For myself, I felt, it wasn't the best drive ever and many many points, where I would curse myself for not being more accurate or not reading the lines correctly, resulting in second tries. But, one thing is for sure, we made it out safely!
Thank you marshals and advance for guiding us safely, it was a real experience for me!
See you all soon,
Tom

Apologies, such a drive deserves a long report, if not time to read here you have a quick summary, best drive ever, Al Quaa and Daggerfall are in an equally outstanding different level.
Drive did not start well, I had been hiking all day in RAK on Saturday so quickly when I got home I rushed with the last preparations for camping, checked the message from Daggerfall, entry point, camping point saved to SatNav, quick check in google earth, yea, it looks flat (important lesson, always be careful with Daggerfall´s MPs) … pitch-black by the time I reached the entry point, lets carry on without deflating, it did not look that bad, hit an area of soft sand small dunes and got crested, out to deflate and nothing, yep, properly crested, I was going to call and check who was at the camp to ask for a pull when I had a second though, I did join Almost because I wanted to become a better offroader, I was told by a friend this was the place to learn from the best, and I have not only learnt driving techniques if not also recovery techniques, I still remember Shamsi telling us about the amount of times he had to dig in Liwa when driving solo, Solmaz´s day of reckoning in Remah … so out of the car again, get the shovel, check properly where to dig and 25min and a few tons of sand later free again … it felt good.
Did not sleep well, tired but too excited about the drive, woke up before the alarm went off to a sight of amazing gigantic dunes, just there, 500m away from our camping spot, dunes like I had never seen ever before, making Al Wagan´s look childish.
Convoy, Daggerfall leading, Mahmood Yasin 2nd lead (only advanced on attendance) with the remaining interm behind (Rathica, Rooies, Tom and myself), floating around and keeping an eye on our safety Shamsi, Rashid/Scorpio (one car with alternative drivers) and Optimus.
Sand still a bit wet and hard so a few minutes to warm up before we reached the 1st big wall and things changed completely, that was a clear statement, the name of the drive said it, your fault if you did not take it seriously …
Very difficult to put into words the level at what the leading car drove, extremely testing and challenging for both cars and drivers, always pushing you to the limit, small little mistake on speed or line and you do not make it, so testing, so much on the limit, I absolutely loved it, improving and learning dune after dune, checking and adapting to best possible combination (gears, speed, trajectory …) of your car in every possible scenario. I strongly believe that it is when you are being pushed out of your comfort zone when you really learn and yesterday was a massive big push, amazing experience.
I have said before I do love cresting from the hard side, my favourite by far, yesterday was a masterclass on this, the amount of times I would look at the leading car thinking, where is he going?, nope, he can not be aiming “there”, not possible … yep, again and again until I decided to stop looking and/or thinking, 1st gear and floor it, he is going to aim at the highest point and cross on an upwards trajectory to make it even harder.
My favourite part were not the big walls if not the sequences that Daggerfall managed to put together of fast bowls, sides, crest and rides, just amazing, when finding that line and speed that gives you that incredible flow it is just magical. He even managed to save the best for last, riding the ridge of a starfish down, I though that was it and after he found, as part of the same sequence, another couple of arches and crosses to finish on an insane climb and blind cross to the right that opened in front of our eyes a gorgeous view to the Sabkah south of the chain we were exploring.
I made it to the end of the drive but just because some cars were running out of fuel, some coolant leak in my car and the wise recommendation from our own Technical Manager Tom was to get out, no leak at the inflating point, petrol station or home … I will take it to Trading hopefully today but I really think it was my Jeep crying and begging to go home …
Time to say thank you and there is a lot to be grateful about.
First to our ever present founder Shamsi, always there with wise advice and knowledge, to our amazing support Team on this drive, Rashid, Scorpio and Optimus. Mahmood Yasin for an exceptional job as a second lead, amazing drive by him. To my fellow interms that made it to the drive and most importantly to the end of the drive, Rathica, Tom, Rooies and Sorin (as Shamsi´s passenger, that is brave …), great job guys!!!
Final words for the leading car, first to Gulsah, Daggerfall´s wife, we got very lucky in the Almost family, imagine if he had married a “this weekend lets go to the mall for lunch and some shopping type”, what a loss for the world of offroading that would have been!!!. Warning as well, she was always laughing and smiling even after the most demanding and insane dunes, be careful with this one, we all know (by experience) what happens with the Turkish sweet and smiling wives that get into this … to Daggerfall, thank you so so much, there is no doubt that his experience, fantastic dune reading, reflexes, … allow him to do what he does but there is not guarantee that a dune is going to be as he expects on the other side, he is taking a massive risk to give us all the opportunity to experience such a drive, once again, THANK YOU.
See you on the sand soon.

Hi Almosters,
Where to start :)
The trip for the drive started earlier than usual for us since I had to cross the border 1-2 hours before my status turns to gray
. Thanks to @alshamsi_m he went earlier and informed us and the members about the new "gate" we need to use because the old one was closed (Seems like all the members took the warnings we gave in the PM seriously
).
We enjoyed the sunset while driving on the milky-way road and it was already dark when we crossed the "gate" and sabkha to reach to the dunes which "looked flat" on google maps
. I deflated to avoid any problem alone in the middle of nowhere but I didn't switch off the ABS. Big mistake!. I crested nicely on a very very soft small crest! (Newbie Style!) ........When you are fresh, inexperience puts you in trouble and when you are experienced, overconfidence do that!. Never ever take such risks especially when you are alone. Luckily 7-8 minutes of shoveling on the right spots was enough to save me and we reached to the camp.
It was a beautiful night as usual with stories around the camp fire. We had a small friendly company (A camel-spider) enjoyed the warmth of our camp fire next to us for a while and he was lucky that the @Mabubaker and his infamous shovel (Spider Slayer) was not around.
Everyone went to sleep after a while and I enjoyed watching the stars and silence before falling asleep on my chair next to the camp fire....When we woke up the scenery was amazing. We were surrounded by "big" dunes. "They will have to warm up pretty quickly" I told to myself
I always enjoyed the most when we explore a new area. The excitement of unknowns and the joy of finding new "treasures" in the desert is what keeps you more focused and motivated!.
We had a great day in the desert!. As I mentioned before many things could go wrong in such demanding drives but we had one of those lucky days yesterday!. We didn't encounter any major issues during the drive and convoy "flowed" smoothly
My thanks and huge respect to all the intermediates (@Rooies , @David , @Rathica , @Tomvanhouten ) joined us yesterday!. They handled everything we encountered "safely" and smoothly. And special thanks to @Mahmoodyasin for the amazing second lead. I never had to look back when he was behind me so I could focus %100 on the dunes ahead!. As always @alshamsi_m , @Rashidjass , @Scorpio and @optimus was watching over the convoy!
Special thanks to my wife Gulsah @Aksoy for her amazing support. She was always informing me about whats happening behind, she even accepted to leave the heavy camping stuff and slept in the car to save weight and motivated me during the drive by keep telling me "Yapistir!" (Floor it! in Turkish
) and soon she will be behind the steering wheel, so beware!

Hello Everyone,
For this drive, I tagged up with @Rashidjass in @SINGH FJ because I did not want to miss this drive when @Daggerfall is leading on Al Quaa dunes
.
Reaching to the camp was interesting as we did not have offroad lights
. I told Rashid that I have a head torch and that’s the best I could do to help ourselves see the dunes
. Camp was alive until @optimus and @Rathica arrived at nearly at 1am then I left to doze off. Night was not that cold, or at least I did not feel it that chilled. I woke up to a beautiful morning scenery and some threatening fog that thankfully subsided quickly.
With Daggerfall leading, @Mahmoodyasin was appointed as the 2nd lead followed by the intermediates while @alshamsi_m, optimus, I and Rashid were floating. The drive started with a warm up phase for the convoy before Daggerfall hit the big dunes. The drive was amazing and gave a fantastic opportunity to the convoy to sharpen their skills. High climbs, long arches, sky-cresting on some of the highest dunes of the area, the drive had everything ‘spiced-up’ what you expect for the intermediates
. Me and Rashid both sat behind the same wheel one by one and showered sand splashes on each other (it was a give and take scenario for us
). Daggerfall pushed the convoy to the edge of their seats and we had an adrenaline filled drive. Hats off to all the members for playing safe as second try is always better than taking the risk.
I would like to thank the organizing Marshall for this drive, Bu Salem for his continuous guidance on the track & the area, and my fellow Marshall and Explorer for their great company.
Cheers,

Hello Everyone
The long-awaited drive to Umm al Zamul is finally here, nonlocals call it Al Qua'a but actually they are different areas and it consisted of 3 chains. We did only one for the whole day drive
.
Since this is an exploration drive, the organizer informed us that we might have a last-minute change in the camp or entrance and he was right. I went with @Tomvanhouten & @Sorin to catch the sunset view to find out that the gate is closed and we have to find another entrance to get in. So the information circulated and everyone got in safely.
Umm al Zamul surpirses :
1. As expected the sand was soft so I got stuck in the second dune
, well that was expected too so I had a buddy who pulled me
We were laughing the whole night because we know that this will happen to some of the others. We just need to setback and enjoy the stories
2. Waked up in the morning to realize that I can't start the car and the drive is over because of my PUSH BUTTON starter
. I tried all the tricks, asked google, called the key maker from the Matrix movie and called everyone on the camp to help but no chance !!! Well, we found the solution but I'm not going to tell you how we sorted out the issue
3. During the drive I noticed that my back tire is leaking air but the reason is UNKNOWN !!!
I have to change the tire, leave the drive or keep checking the air from time to time like Formula one and inflate from time to time. My Co-Pilot worked on that mission for the rest of the day and we had a successful drive but I don't recommend it for inexperienced drivers
Before I close my report I would like to thank @Daggerfall for the amazing lead, @Rashidjass & @optimus for floating around and keeping us dafe Also @Mahmoodyasin for the second lead. Special thanks to my co-pilot @Sorin for feeding me the whole day and inflating the tire around 700 times
Till next time, please stay safe and looking forward to see you more in these far far drives
Cheers

Drive : Wanted dead or alive

Area : Umm Zamul

Hi All,
I remember my exploration drive with Rashid & Scorpio in July 21. Our plan was to explore Umm Zamul but due to some reasons we couldn’t enter the area so we ended up exploring the other chain of Al qua.
However this time we got lucky with Bu Salem having the full mapping of the area. Earlier during the day, I met Rashid & Scoprio at Jass garage, we planned to catch up on E66.
Intentions were clear, doesn’t matter the color grey or green, I am not going to miss this drive when daggerfall is leading in Umm Zamul
. That’s what happened. I had to activate plan b.
I arrived at the camp past midnight. Early morning, the view of those no mercy razor sharp ʌ dunes was super awesome
. convoy order was set. The drive as mentioned in the above reports was amazing.
Floating team was having their own part of the fun, cresting them dunes more than a few times. Every crest in the area was within the fraction of disaster and that what makes such areas great!
I recommended that eligible drivers should come forward & register for such drives. Once you drive in such areas behind our cresting Guru’s you guarantee to take your confidence to the next level!
At last thanks again to @alshamsi_m for being able to find this hidden gem of Umm Zamul for us.
Thanks to Daggerfall for a dynamic lead. Mahmood for being the safe 2nd lead.
Thanks to Rashid, Scorpio for being around. & our Braveheart intermediates!
until next time!

It was a long hard week at work & I was looking forward to spending time in the desert to get my sanity back.
@alshamsi_m send us the new pin for the gate & told us it was soft, I was not going to spend my night digging, so when I went through the gate & stopped & deflated. I followed some track but then there were 3 tracks & I decided to make a 4th, my own
. The sand was soft & some sharp drops here & there, but I reached the camp & found @alshamsi_m , @Sorin , @Daggerfall & @Tomvanhouten there.
Next morning was a bit nippy, but after some coffee all was good. Everybody was there & we were ready to drive. @alshamsi_m had a issue his car would not start. We all went there to try & help & after dismantling the dashboard they found the "problem" & we were ready to go.
We "warmed" up with a few "small" dunes then started hitting the big stuff
. I was at the back of the inter convoy & was hitting the messed up tracks, not long & my second tries started (I stopped counting later
), for some reason the car was loosing some power when I hit the dune. @alshamsi_m also got behind the wheel to try & get over, but could not, something was "killing" the power. I got moved up to 3rd car which helped a bit, but still the second tries were coming.
It was not my best day in the desert. The drive was next level, crazy big dunes, side crest after side crest, it was awesome.
Thank you to everybody that was patient & waiting for me to get over the dunes & the marshals with all the advice to get me over as well.
Overall it was an awesome day in the desert & really looking forward to going back there one day & have an awesome drive without struggling. There is some issues on the car I need to sort & figure out, but I will be back.
Thank you @Daggerfall for arranging the trip, the other marshals, advance & explorer for looking after us & ensuring that we all got out of the desert. Thanks also to my fellow inter, @Rathica , @David & @Tomvanhouten for a fun day.
Till we meet again, stay safe.
Greetings
