This giant month payed a visit to our house tonight. It's known as a Deaths Head Hawk Month and featured on the cover of the classic movie "Silence of the Lambs". I measured it before releasing it back out into my garden and it's length was 5.5cm. I believe it's wingspan was even greater than that. I have seen this type of moth before so I believe it's common to this region. It gets it's name from the skull type pattern on its back! Beautiful colouring for a moth.

Saw this little guy this morning amongst the dunes of Sweihan nesting under a large bush. It's a young Pharaoh Eagle-Owl. Mum was close by so I took a quick photo and left the little guy alone not to disturb it or Mum. Seeing something like this on a early morning drive makes the early start and journey really worth while. Playing in the large untouched dunes was just an added bonus.

Below is a Cheesman's Gerbil spotted in Sweihan late afternoon in July.

Above is a Wolf spider with its young on its back. It is poisonous and can be dangerous to small pets and possibly make young children sick. Many people try squash it as it's a little scary looking. If it's carrying its young as shown they run in all directions and suddenly you have hundreds of spiders hiding in your house or garden!
