First of all i had decided to get my family for this drive and as per plan i was supposed to leave home at 12 pm sharp (ended up leaving 12:45) now what i was wondering how the hell am i supposed to reach badayer in 15-20 minutes well i took full advantage of the pentastar and somehow managed to reach there by 1:10 (20 minutes-bur dubai-badayer) not bad once we got there we did not deflate as instructed and headed further for 15 km into the dunes for briefing .The group was then divided into 3. 1 for intermediate other two for newbies. We then deflated and headed straight into the desert. I started noticing that my cars rear tends to slip really easily on slopes .On 1 of the technical parts where we were instructed to go one by one i tried to fight gravity and starting going sideways BAD MOVE! i ended up risking myself for a roll over but luckily i made it after that Abu Jimmy and Khataib explained to me what i did wrong. We then drove till 4:20 and then stopped at the Super Bowl for about an hour for letting the big boys play there. BOY OH BOY was it worth it !!!! at 5:30 we started heading to badayer and by 6 we were all inflating and headed our way
All in all everyone got home safe and sound. Well organized trip thanx to all the marshals and the founders
Peace !

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Desert Valentine was a great way to spend a Friday afternoon.
We met at Al Badayer shops and moved off (a little late) towards Shwaib , meeting up with the Intermediates and Advanced , and being met by a film crew for Abu Dhabi TV. I was in Convoy 1 led by Al Khatib and swept by Stawb. The going was fairly technical involving mostly small dunes and some tight turns and cresting. I gather a few of the passengers felt how tight the turns and rolling action really was!
There were a couple of pop-outs and a few second-rounds but generally it went smoothly, and we reached Super Bowl to see the ‘big boys’ show off their ‘big toys’. I left a little early back to Al Badayer, and thanks to Iqsaan for the fun lead back.
Many thanks as always to all the organisers.

Another nice afternoon Friday drive with almost 4x4 Team…
I was in 2nd conveying lead by Hamdan and swept by Abu Jimmy…
It was a little tricky track selected by our Marshals to improve our off-roading driving skills, we climbed the various dunes and beautiful crests starting from Al Shwaib to the Super bowl. We almost spend 1 hour for watching the Big Boys action with colourful BIG TOYS …and we headed back to Al Badeyer…
Thanks to Hamdan & Abu Jimmy who took care of us and to safely drive from the start till the end of the drive.
Thanks to Almost 4x4 Team for the nice Valentine Weekend…
Here are some snaps;-

Even though I live very close to Hatta Oman highway, i still choose to leave on time and early. Unfortunately, I did not realize that it was the time for Friday Prayers and being badayer in the area of Sharjah, even the petrol stations are closed during those hours. So I was stuck for nearly 90mins waiting for the staff to come back and start fueling a long que of off-roaders. Somehow managed to get to badayer shops where I see Abu Jimmy about to drive off as a last car in the convoy and I get to hear that YOU ARE LATE OMAIR and ofcourse I had to admit and agree because no excuse is a good excuse for being late.
I am glad I managed to complete this drive with Almost as it was one of the those drives with some entertainment on the way @ super bowl. Very interesting track and I did mess up a couple of times by slipping away on the dunes but managed to get back on track, so all good!!
Thank you Almost, all the marshals, everyone!!! looking forward to seeing you all very soon.
Regards,

Hi All,
It was another great drive with Almost, I was in the newbie convoy led by hamdan and sweep ed by Abu jimmy. Even though it rained sand was soft and pleasurable to drive. Quite an interesting track and had great fun. Track chosen was challenging and technical too. It was indeed an awesome experience with my new ride. Thanks Abu Salem for allowing me to click pictures of your mods. Thanks Khatib and Hamdan For lead. Abu Jimmy and Srawb for sweep. Awaiting next drive.

A big gathering Friday afternoon for the "Desert Romantic's" that we all are! Met at 1pm in Al Badayer but had a delayed start as a few were caught out by the local gas stations closing for midday prayers. Moved on to an area about 12km South were the intermediates and advanced were also gathered as all convoys were planed to track back northbound and watch the big V8 buggies play on the larger dunes in the late afternoon. At a guess there were approximately 40 Almost4x4 members gathered for Al Shamsi's safety brief.
It was almost 2.20pm when we finally engaged 4x4 and set off for our afternoon adventure. I had driven this track before with Yoghybear leading the way after on the Tech1 outing. This Valentine drive lead by Al Khatib was a lot less technical as we had a day of rain just before Friday which was enough to firm up the surface of the sand but not so much rain to have it transform to a mud like substance like the previous Tech 1 drive where we had many cars caught out....Hello Jeremy!
As our convoy averaged +10 drives I had hoped for a bit of a bigger challenge this Friday and although the route was technical it was very much a repeat of a previous trip and from what I could see from the back of the convoy everyone coped very well and could have maybe stepped it up a notch more. Just one stuck and pop out within the first 300m and a little motion sickness to follow but otherwise smooth sailing from everyone. Certainly a very capable group of guys to be driving with which makes the afternoon all that more enjoyable.
Arrived at the big boys play area (Iftar bowl I believe it's called but may be mistaken) at around 4.30 where most hung about to watch the late afternoon show. As it was Valentines I thought it best to compromise my desert activity time and set back early to keep me in the good books with my wife!
Thanks Abu Jimmy, Al Kathib and Strawb for generously giving up your time again. And thanks to all my fellow Newbies for keeping it safe and social. It's a pleasure driving with you.

Another Friday drive with different experiences. We met at Al Badayer and then regrouped at Al Shwaib with the Intermediates ready to go. Al Shamsi briefed that there was an Abu Dhabi film crew present to document the Almost Experience! I need to see that footage Marshalls - is that possible? Anyway, we deflated and as Dave says, we followed a part of the Tech 1 track then into some higher dunes. Capably led by Al Khatib with sweep by Strawb, a dual pop out in the same place with two different convoys and two different cars. Quickly repaired and on our way again. I think the hard sand made things a little less challenging than it ought to have been considering the area and level of drivers - that said some more new territory for me, and a slightly different configuration for the Green Giant due to my spare wheel issues. We got to Super Bowl to witness the Corvette powered buggies strutting their stuff - amazing to watch! We left at about 5:30 and made Al Badayer by just after 6 - a great route back and stunning scenery with the sun going down.
I had an issue with my Go Pro this week when a lot of footage was upside down, which adds a different angle to the videos, I have done 2 short ones for your enjoyment:

Enjoy and see you in the sand soon.
