Almost4x4

My first all lead as support, it is a great drive I have very good memories of the 2 times I attended as part of the convoy.

8 interm taking part, area the "classic Sweihan", very well known by everybody and unfortunately too many tracks everywhere, too be honest in some sectors if feels like a highway ... even Nagra, the top can be driven from side to side as if it was a normal road ... it is becoming extremely difficult to find areas where you can enjoy selecting your own tracks.

Very difficult for me to comment on anyone's performance, at the back of the convoy and most of the time "playing around" so I must admit not paying much attention to what was going on and having fun instead.

Only general comments I would make, if you are leading a large convoy (10+ cars) and turning back in direction be careful of not crossing your tail, if possible when turning around choose a chain a couple of dunes away from the one you did originally.

Other than this everyone seemed to enjoy the drive which is always the main thing alongside safety.

Thank you Optimus for organizing the drive, Rashid for the 2nd lead and Shamsi and Scorpio for attending as support to make the drive possible.

Hi everyone!

My second All Lead and this time at the back of the convoy. It was pretty much the same good fun but on a different way because in this I was witnessing my fella intermediates performance

Each one brought & shown a unique driving style, so it was good to see how this batch of drives have evolved, some a bit more adventurous and some a bit more cautious but all in all, everybody did well.

The selected playground was completely chewed up but what to do …untouched dunes are becoming difficult to find so only the braves will ride on them.

For closing, I would like to thank @optimus for organizing and@Rashidjass , @Scorpio and @alshamsi_m for looking after the convoy.

Get ready for the next challenge…Solo Bats!

The marshals prepared for the intermediates waypoints to drive through. It was well organized. And new concept for me. I usually don't like to lead.
@optimus starts the briefings explaining what to expect from this drive. Assuring it's part of training program to smooth our skills. However, convoy order were set randomly and my position was the last.

@Aljamhi start as first driver to lead the convoy for 15 min were 2nd lead was @Rashidjass .. it was really good start he was conquring all dunes in his area and all were following 2nd lead. It was very nice to find one from my batch developed a such skill, knowing that we weren't expected it in the first place.

However, it was nice drive, new experience for me as last driver, I concluded it in crossing Nagra dune from side to side. It was first time to do it.

Some skills still need to be enhanced. Hopefully with such intensive and wise training program we would all be there.

All Lead drive is a format in Almost4x4: each member is given the opportunity to lead the convoy, to practice his driving and navigational skills, without no car to follow.

Each member is assigned a starting point and an end point. Within this “line” the acting leader plays around, leading the convoy for 15 minutes. The real challenge is to keep the right pace and tracks for the convoy: not too fast, not too slow, not too risky, not too easy and boring.

I set my alarm clock set at 6:30pm, but I woke up at 4am, after 4 hours sleeping: why? Maybe some excitement, who knows.

I arrived at the meeting point even earlier, so I took the chance to wonder around and warm up.
After the initial briefing by @optimus we drew from a bag our coordinates, set them in our GPS device and moved.

Every intermediate had his 15 minutes: some fresher than others, everybody did very well. I really enjoyed the tracks and pace.

I deeply enjoyed my 15 minutes leading, choosing my tracks, until I came close to a farm and learnt one more new lesson: in this part of the year camels are pregnant and our waving flags can scare them up, even up to a miscarriage. Farmers invest their life and resources in them, so they can get quite nervous having off-roaders around: better to be extremely respectful and keep away from farms. Thanks to @alshamsi_m and @Aljamhi who managed the situation.

Overall, a great drive and experience but - most al all - living the mission of Almost4x4 coming true: We want to train you to be independent off-roaders

For the first time, I had the feeling that I am on the right track to become an independent off-roader.
The journey is still long and far to be completed, but now I see the light :-)

Obviously, none of this would have been possibile without the effort and commitment of our marshals who trained us with dedication and professionalism.
