So I'm thinking about moving over to a snorkel system, and i was just wondering, in yours opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages to it? Other than the most obvious ones:
Advantages:
Cleaner air (normally the higher your intake is from the road, the cleaner the air is)
Cooler air (it doesn't pass through the hot engine compartment)
More air (similar to a hood scoop, or ram air)
Dry air
More space in the engine bay (if you want to add more mods, etc)
It looks really cool
Disadvantages:
Bugs, debris and more stuff stuck in your air cleaner
More frequent air filter changes

Snorkel, as it said, is just good for a water. There is longer way for air intake into the engine, it means, similar if you would like to breathe over long pipe in the gas mask at the long way run. I don't see any advantage at such installation.

Advantages:
cleaner air because of shifting the intake point.
Cooler air: Generally the temperature in side the engine bay is 25-30 C more than ambient temperature, with snorkel the air entering the throttle body is just 5 C more than ambient.

Disadvantages

I don't agree;
Just install the pre filter at the intake point and nothing can enter.
No filter changes at all and very rare cleaning, because your filter is sucking the cleanest air available.

So just install and enjoy........
As I will do the same.

All the OEM filters and cold air intake are taking air from the hole in fender, and that hole is connected to the intake point just at the base of the wind shield ( RHS on FJz).
By installing snorkel you are only increasing the intake length by 60-70 cm, so it will not effect any performance.
My personnel experience after installing my Cold air intake convinced me to go for snorkel. I was stuck and the sand was flying every.after the trip when i checked my CAI box, it was 30 % full of sand because of the lower intake point.

Comments are welcome

I agree with capri, no actual distingueshed advantage but crossing water paths.

scuba mods are not only applicable for water crossing but also for crossing the sand rivers, lolz
