Hi there almosters - been a silent member for a while now, but following all the threads. Recently settled in Dubai, and now ready to venture into the desert.

Vehicle is the LandRover LR3, haven't seen many members driving these, would be interested in comments as to their capability in the sand.

Looking forward to meeting some of you on the next club member trip that I can get on.

Welcome to the club Mike hope to see you soon in the sand :)

LR3 are ultimate machines you can take them on any terrain, Marshals like capri, Abu Jimmy, Al Shamsi, will be able to tell you better about their performance in sand specifically since they know sand and cars

Regarding to the LR3 , its a good car and a capable off-roading machine , however any car have its drawbacks and flaws . The LR3 has a soft suspension and the spare parts and maintenance are pretty costly .

What should be usualluy checked after an offorad drive?
What are te parts that usually are damaged and need maintenance for?

No it wasn't me, just one of my name sakes !

Also do you have any idea of when the next club member trip is likely to be - from studying the posts, it seems that they run at the begining of the month. Have I missed this months?

All, mainly for Jeep.

Very good for you... manual, it gives you a bit more advantage compared with A/T.

Yes, you missed last week...
At the moment, unfortunately, we are not planning any trip for Club Members, as we did it last week. However, as soon as we will have enough new registrations, we will organize something. Based on the experience with new registrations, it may happen in May.

How's the Legend?

After every trip basics:

1. Clean air filter after every trip and replace every 10k
2. Listen to any unusual noise, when driving tarmac, mainly some weird knocking on suspension. Change all loose bushings frequently. Sometimes bushings are not available solo, so you need to change whole segments, like arms. Think on chain reaction, if something goes wrong
3. When engine is cold, open radiator and add coolant, not the reservoir only, as at high revs, the coolant does evaporate faster as usual
4. Every 50k interval change all liquids, differential, gear box, transfer case, brake fluid, clutch fluid
5. Change fuel filter every 30k
6. Listen to the engine sound and learn the melody. If your favourite melody does change in a desert, get out as soon as possible, try not to drive, to avoid fatal costly damages
7. Go frequently to your selected garage and check for liquids leaks everywhere. Sand is a good help for you, when you see sand glued somewhere, there is a leak, if these are gaskets or shocks
