7th Year Anniversary Party
Posted: Sat Mar 02, 2013 12:03 am
I'm afraid that it is my turn to write up the report, but I'm pretty brain dead, so I hope that you will all give me a hand here... please... :022:
It all started in November, when one of the founders casually mentioned that it was time to start planning for our anniversary party. As you all must have been wondering why exactly the Crew exists, this was the perfect opportunity to illustrate it. The Crew, so far, have been working more behind the scene, and I have had a member or two tell me before that "I do more than you do and I'm not even Crew". I don't bother arguing with this, because only the marshals get to see what we actually do, and because we have had, for some time, some other projects in the pipeline that had not yet materialised. So fair enough comment, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But back to the party.
It took some time to fix the date. We have had a few date changes but we finally fixed it. Why did we fix it for today? Because we wanted to use it as an opportunity to advertise for our upcoming LADIES DRIVE... and with all the games and things happening during the party, we forgot to mention it! So yes, you have now been informed, that we actually expect YOU LADIES (or YOUR ladies) to take the steering wheel and join us very very very soon! :048::048::048:
Once the date was fixed, the wheel started rolling... Find a place. Book the place. Design the tickets. Do we want food or not? Are people going to play? Do we do a drive or not? At what time? Shall we bring non-members? How do we reserve or sell the tickets? How many did we sell in the first 3 days? ONLY 23?!? Shall we cancel? No, let's wait a few more days. Give me 5 tickets. I actually only wanted 1 but I'll promote the event. I want 13. Oh great! It seems we are selling well! Oh wait! It seems that we are double counting because someone is giving tickets to the people who reserved on my list... What is going on?! I want 2 more because I gave my ticket to one of my many female friends. Ok but you need to go to Sharjah and get them from Omar. No, I want them from you. Why can't you reserve me 2 more? Because I have been spending my whole week waiting for people in shopping malls and running around town, and I no longer have the time nor the tickets. But please reserve me 2 tickets! But I don't have any more!!
Yes, my week has been like that. Yes, I am also glad that today is over. And yes, I am happy with the way the day went, even if it was faaaaaaaar from perfect.
So I got there in the morning, looked around and saw that most of the things had been set up, so I was happy. I left my music system and left. I came back at 2pm fairly happy about it all and met up LadyLienka and Caprihorse, who had brought the cakes over. And then things went downhill... Not all things were as expected. I shall spare you the details.
People arrived and scattered around. The Crew brought them over to the tent and they were given a couple of gifts from our sponsors. I presented the plan for the afternoon, as well as the games, while I could see that everyone was melting. But melting in an excited mode. Pheeeewwww... 8 teams were created and off they all went!
Basketball, air gun shooting, soapy football, sumo wrestling, table tennis, fussball, musical chairs, tug of war, drawing and quiz were in order. We were also supposed to have a tool-treasure hunt, but by the time I remembered that I was supposed to hide the items, I suspected that people would have noticed where they would have been hidden... And then "how far can you go" game, which unfortunately had to be cut short because one of our members was better than it!
I'll stop here and let you continue because I am now falling asleep. It's been a very long day and I hope you all had a great time.
A few Thank You:
- To my dearest female Crew Jabster and Ladylienka for their patience and support, designing the tickets, getting the cake and the extra bits, and generally putting up with me when I stress out.
- To my dearest male Crew Kallas for helping out with the ticket sale. He ensured that I did not go completely crazy.
- To Chief Marshal Caprihorse for getting those tickets so nicely printed.
- To all the Marshals who helped out with the games.
- To the Founders for their faith in me.
- To our sponsors Dubai Optical / Optivision and Hassan Mukhtar & Brothers for all the gifts. Thank you Arminjune and RashidJass for sorting them out!
- To all our members, new and old, your families and friends, who joined us today. We hope to see you all in our drives from now on...
A few I'm Sorry:
- To our vegetarian members. I'm sorry that your food was not there. I had personally gone to the restaurant on Thursday and had agreed what they would bring, but someone from the location interfered after that.
- To everyone who boiled in the tent while I gave out the games instructions.
- To everyone for everything else, if it was not up to expectations. This has been one steep learning curve and we are already reporting on improvements. One is that next time we'll use our radios. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before.
I think I may have a few people tell me that I should perhaps not write all this, but it is my report and I believe it is important that all this is tracked. I know that there will be many points written, both positive and negative, and so I invite you to send me a PM with all your improvement suggestions. I have a long list, but I will appreciate all yours too.
Any positive ones, feel free to leave them here. :059:
PS: BettyPo's team won. :051:
