Guys,

I am just 1 year in this UAE and want to clarify myself on few things with advice from experts like you guys who have been in this country since sometime ago.

What can be the maximum purchase price for a

1.1996 Land Cruiser VXR 6 Cylinder with front/rear diff locks with full options like Sunroof Leather seats Cruise Control NO.1 specs and in excellent mechanical condition but very poor cosmetics/interiors (like torn leather seats which will not move back and front because all motors have gone, floor mats very bad conditions as the vehicle has not been wahsed for quite a long time, 3rd row seats missing and front bonnet paint has gone due to age of the vehicle with tuch ups required every where.

2. Garmin GPS 5 Old Model which will not have voice modulation and colour screen but loaded with city maps and informed to me by the guy that this can be used in Desert.

Hi,

I have tried in Dubizzle but cannot get the comparison prices for car & GPS. If you guys can give an indication, it will be much appreciated...The guy has the fixed price of 35000 AEd for land Cruiser and 500 AEd for this Garmin GPS 5. I want to justify myself about this before making an offer..

The GPS is not worth even AED 200. For AED 595 you can get a Garmin Nuvi 1310 that has color screen, voice prompts blue tooth and off road capabiolity. Its always better to get a new GPS

I dont knwo about the price for the LC though

Thanks for your info..can we put the coordinates in offroad and is there track traciability..In my opinion track traciability is of no use in desert as the dunes get changed in one sand storm but hust thought of checking with you..

I think you got the wrong idea buddy .. in the desert you keep track so you can go back if you reach a dead end, or just want to go back where you started from along the same path. The GPS will never give you the shape of the dune therefore you always have to look where your driving and driving in a zigzag is the norm. Moreover, there are sections you can only take one way, for example, a steep drop.

Very well explained DL, additionally only small dunes are changing, not big dunes. I was able to follow my tracks recorded in GPS as tracks, e.g. in Liwa after few years.

Thanks for the Explanation. I am not so experienced in GPS. so should i be confirmed that Garmin Nuvi 1310 has the options to set respective coordinates and also tracks traceability.

Saving a track in the desert is of a very limited use keepin in mind the changin dunes. What I do is mark the entry point / exipt point and then keep adding locations on the way that I might want to visit again or can serve as landmarks for future like location of fences etc.

Also any Nuvi with off road mode will store a tmporary track. It will be shown in turquoise on your screen. If you really need to take the exact route back all you need to do is follow the Turquoise track back to the start.

Alternately you just choose teh start point you saved earler and hit go. A straight line will then guide you back. Although you might have to deviate from the straight line for the dunes but it will get you where you want to go.

The Nuvi offers you the option of saving your current lication, say your entry point as a favourite. All you do is navigate back to thei point and you are done. You can also plug in coordinates and name them and save them as favourites.

The Nuvi 3590 and some others better Nuiv's will also let you create an actual route prior to your going in and thsi can be saved and used again later.
