I had one for just over a month when I turned 16. I remember I had to turn the steering wheel one full turn before the tires turned left or right!
The combination of the confused steering wheel and rough gear changes gave me a good workout every time I drove it!
However, I'm sure a lot has changed in the last 20 years!
Cheers,

Amit, there is a local land rover offroading group. Check with them if you want detailed info about the defender. Look out for them on facebook, they have a page on it.

Drove the LR Defender for the first time yesterday, The steering did work fine!! Guess they have upgraded somethings!!
Was a fun drive especially cause i was driving a manual after a loong time, But this needed work on the suspension.
Waiting to drive a few more to find out the difference.

The Jeep is the first thing that comes to mind when we think anything off road!! the best part is that we can find one in any budget... But i am not in a great hurry and just exploring other options!!
As for the Pathfinder, I have understood the desert performance..... But had in mind a one that also looks the part!!

Wow this turned out to be an interesting thread, especially because the jeep and the nissan guys are not fighting :D
Remember Amit, you get what you pay for. Pay some more and buy yourself an FJ. This will save you some head ache :)

@amit
How'd the clutch part go? I've driven a couple and depressing the clutch pedal seemed nightmarish! A friend had bought one, almost b'new, and claimed his left leg had gone more muscular in just over 3 odd months......and I better not write the 'crap' he referred to its factory A/c...... sold it and bought a used LC 105 and is pretty happy since then!
I agree, the car does look good,..... only when she is parked!
Buy anything, but that tractor!
Buy something more practical!

Of-course the clutch is heavy...But then, we are so used to driving auto transmissions that we hardly use the left leg!!!
While drive a manual, with the purpose that the Defender was built for, i was not surprised!
Also this one had on A/C at all, but really luxury was not on mind at all!!!
