I am not sure who is more insane.
Driving +300km/h in a Patrol OR Standing on the side of the road while its being done.....

Hehe, I did once in my newbie times 250 km/h on standard country road in night, but until today I remember the level of adrenaline and spinning in my head. It was 1994 with Mercedes 300 (not mine). Not advisable to do for anybody... :011:

Hi all!

I came across this Land Rover defender 95 model LWB, I know of the Defenders off road performance on mud and rocks. But not very sure of its performance on desert sand.

Please put in your thoughts!!

As you said it's great car for mud and rocks but for sand driving I believe it's too heavy and not cheap to maintain.

I had once an chance to drive along with some other guy who was driving Defender, for 2 days in Liwa. The car performed extremely well in the sand, with amazing climbing capabilities. But it didn't have A/C...

Yes that right, it does not have a AC, but can get a aftermarket fitment cheaply. You did mention, it did well in the desert!!

So i am guessing it has your approval for our desert conditions...

I personally love defenders (2door/soft top)

But do also consider the maintenance cost and parts availability for this.
There are official dealers in Sharjah/Dubai so just pay them a visit and check the availability and pricing of normal parts like air filter, brake pads, fuel pump, fan belt and suspension parts etc. just to get an idea on the maintenance cost.

Amit, not really I suggest this car and my thoughts are, that at that time Defender was a new car for that owner and it was model 2006. Don't forget that this car is British made, with a great engineering, but with disastrous quality control. Spare parts you can get only with very few traders for extremely high prices. I owned before Jaguar XJ40 and I was spending almost every week in garage, to fix different things. On the other hand the cost of spare parts is also huge. E.g. for Nissan brake pads price is around 100 Dhs, for Defender it might be 800 Dhs...
Why such a big difference? Spare parts prices are dictated with the volume of the cars at the market. As more the cars, as more traders and as lower the prices for spare parts. Additionally not many garages can work on Defender, so the cost for any repairs is also very high.
