Re: Infinity & Beyond Liwa

This time’s trip report is not as a driver but as a passenger.
Oh, wait… did I mention that I was in Shamsi car and he was the lead car and this was in Liwa.

There is no better vantage point than being in the front. You get to see the beauty of the untouched dunes from the front & see the wonderful convoy behind you.
I also got to see firsthand how a lead car driver thinks.

So as part of an off-road convoy we follow a ‘track’ created for us. We put our faith in the marshal that he will take us through a safe track worthy of our level and ensure that we will enjoy it.
I never fully grasped what it takes to make a track. I thought tracks were sort of provided to the lead car. They just had to do a few adjustments and voila here’s a track. Easy-peasy. Ha… what false notions I had.

A track is a work of art. Nature has given you a blan'k canvas, no tracks, smooth sands, virgin untouched dunes
. You have to make your mark. The dunes are enticing you to challenger her.

The lead car is the artist, the challenger. He sees a dune and his mind whirls with possibility. Should I climb it, how high should I go, what’s on the other side, can the weakest driver in the convoy make it, will the climb be a newbie 10+, intermediate or advance. His mind runs through the various scenarios of what possible outcomes can come from the challenge.
Moving forward he challenges the dune, he decides to climb it, he is the first. But remember the dune will fight back. To mount her he will take a beating. Sometimes the challenger wins sometimes he will lose. But not every time he will get away unscathed. If he wins, that’s the track that you and me follow. He has done the hardest work. He has created a path for you to follow all he asks is to safely follow in his foot step, enjoy yourself and learn from the experience.

I said something earlier, I said that the track is a work of Art. I say that because of the emotions involved in creating the track. A track is made with science, experience, curiosity, luck, wisdom, patience, generosity, anger, and excitement. That track gives you your rush, your experience, your fulfillment. It scratches that itch you have. It leaves you satisfied.
As a passenger I saw the raw emotions of our founder. Even after all these years of off roading he screams in excitement like a school boy going on a roll coaster for the first time. I saw him joyfully jumping in his seat and eyes filled with excitement as his convoy conquers a drop or a challenge. He relishes the fact the you have conquered your own fears and come out the other side stronger.
I won’t write too much about the drive, I am sure the other members can write about it much better.
All the marshals have their heart is in the right place. They want you to leave the desert with a satisfied smile on your face and ask for nothing in return. Their capacity to give is heartwarming.
Thank you to every marshal and lead out there… for just going first.
Thank you Booy, rashidjass for the fantastic time. Thank you Shamsi for allowing me to come and sit on your roller coaster drive. Also thank you for the nonstop conversation.

Now time to go and still clean the sand from my ears…. bye
