Mini Convoy 2014-09-27
Yet another great trip. Plenty of big dunes and cresting. Less cars this time and the driving skills seem to be matched throughout the group. This was my first trip at the back of the pack. The track was all busted up from the cars in front. I liked it. It actually made for a smoother trip for it was like driving in snow. The speed of the convoy was fast enough that driving on fluffy sand was OK. Think I would have been in trouble if we had to stop often. This drive had the fewest stops of any drive so far. It was great.
No passengers this time and with the windows open and the AC off, I discovered a serious increase in performance. I think I will be putting the wife on a diet (maybe I should also) and limiting the passenger weight in the future.
We finished the trip with a straight climb on a big dune then an “up and over” a sharp crest and down a long dune face. I am hooked. Got to do more of those on future drives.
Thanks all for the great ride.

Hi Everyone
The first thing you notice when you drive on Saturday comparing to Friday that the desert is FREE for you only. The main idea was to take the 8+ newbies in a drive but since there is no supporting Marshal/Explorer, I had to limit the number to 5 or 6 according to the rule of 1:5 club members and 1:10 newbies but since I was planning to drive Mini Me so I was going to apply the the rule of ONE marshal is enough for 5 members since Mini Me is limited in rescue but suddenly Megatron came out of the garage to save the day and allow more hungry members to join.
I would call this drive " The second gear drive " in order to feel the cars behind me I intentionally drove mostly in second so the others won't suffer also applied the safari style to use the terrain & gravity to our advantage in the big bowls.
We had great time in the sand for 2.5 hours but all good things has to come to an end. Thanks for sharing your time with our club and looking forward to see you soon.
I will be out of the country on Eid , So Eid Mubarak in advance to all of you.
Best Regards
... Al Shamsi got very " excited " on the radio as distance was not kept, track not followed and with some cars going too far across losing speed and momentum a few cars "funnelled" down towards the same spot. Compounded by the steep gradient at the base of the bowl I gather it got a little exciting for some!! But no damage and a lesson well learnt. Always follow the tracks of the leader and don't get too adventurous!...
Hehe, it must have been pretty chaotic, when my bro lost his temper :ka boom:

Yes, I think the yelling of "STAY ON THE TRACK!!!.....STAY ON THE TRACK!!!....DONT GO ABOVE!!!....DONT GO ABOVE!!!" being yelled from Al Shamsi's radio was more powerful than the force of gravity itself pulling everyone back down to the base of Iftar bowl! :045:

First of all, thank you Bu Salem for taking everyone who signed up into this drive. It was wonderful to be back in the desert after 3 months!...Big thanks (and apologies) for those of you who patiently waited while I got stuck twice on the same crest.
@Bu_Salem I'm sorry you had to yell on the radio to me...honestly I was in awe of my first attempt at a bowl and lost the track of Fida....and thanks for pulling me out on my first stuck! Dave Thanks for posting the picture of my stuck (appreciate the PR).:like: MOMO thanks for pulling me out on my second stuck...I'm glad I could be your first rescue training :045:... Also thanks for the video. I finally got a chance to see what Dave meant when he said that we almost had a wrangler mate with the Prado!
@Defrag Keep your distance while driving buddy...my prado is not interested to mate with your jeep :059:. But big thanks for helping with my stuck and my 'snaky' tow rope...Appreciate it....Also talk to Momo...his video reveal too much of you trying to play around....and for the record...I did not drift as much as you did (video is proof). orlantsev yes you are right...Dave lives at the Badayar shops...He posted the report before I reached home!
On the whole had a great time as always...good to meet my weekend family after a long break. Look forward to driving more.
Thanks again bu Salem for a great Saturday morning....wish you a nice trip on the Eid break!

pradodxb if you notice the dune were my car was about to hit your car
1 the dunes sand in the starting is very loose meaning if I slowed down there I wouldn't have got enough momentum to climb that dune
2 if you notice while the climb there is a good gap maintained . Things went wrong when you lost track of fidas car and then made another track to counter that I steered even further away but u were changing approach angles and ended up were I was gonna go .

Hey Defrag...chillax...I was kidding mate... In fact my reference to you playing around is in the earlier parts of the video (in fact starting with the first 15secs) where you are drifting dude....:059:
The video is actually an eye opener...more so a visual explanation of everything Bu Salem mentioned as possibility of things that could have gone wrong in that bowl...Definitely a learning experience for me and I'm thankful we came out of it eventlessly and even more for the careful eyes and wisdom of Bu Salem to watch, warn us and guide us to take that corrective action.
I'm fortunate to be in a club where safety is the only and utmost priority.
