Good morning,

Just wondering if performance air intake or just the air filters with stock housing (aFe for example) enhance performance of Nissan Patrol Safari as compared to stock air intake and air filter. Online reviews arent decisive, some Y61 owners say yes, some say the increased performance is marginal. Any thoughts?

Also, changing the housing to the one below for example, would that invalidate bumper-to-bumper warranty?

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thx.

Hi Fat Rabbit ,

This advise applies mostly to FJs but I think it would be the same for Patrols.
Changing the air filter alone would give no to minor performance gains.

You would need to change the airfilter, headers, exhaust, and do a custom tuning for any actual gains.
However, besides being expensive, you can also get in trouble with the authorities due to the increased noise (especially in Shj).

If you feel you are struggling with power on sand, I would recommend lowering your tire pressure (unless its already super low), or trying out a different tire type that might be more suitable for your car. It makes a bigger difference than you think!

Hope this helps.

Exactly what youssef said , in addition to risking engine damage if you don't fix a snorkel due to sand getting inside.

If the engine breathes in more (air intake), it will need a bigger exhaust too for maximum gains!

Just to add to this on your question for warranty. Yes it will invalidate the warranty unless you do go the extra mile to remove it before every service and make it stock.
