SUN AND SURF! brigade.baka-wolf.com

Hi Almosters,

After the morning drive post gathering (It was fun as usual) we moved to the meeting point for the afternoon drive.

We had two convoys and started the trip riding (Surfing!) on the tip of the crests in a very technical and soft area with small dunes and continued driving safari style & introduction level side cresting on mid size dunes till the sunset. I think everyone noticed how you can change the pace in a technical area with small dunes when you change the driving style! And the level difference between every Newbie Level.

The convoy moved very smoothly and everybody did very well except at few challenging spots as expected which we decided to see how the convoy will handle them because of their encouraging performance brigade.baka-wolf.com . The pace was good in general and I must say I really enjoyed this drive! Thank you guys!

We finished the drive at Al Qudra before the amazing sunset and chit chat for a while before we leave. Thanks to all participated and supported this drive. We had some members had to leave during the drive but thanks to amazing support all taken care without any interruption!

alshamsi_m , Yoghybear Mark B Agalon Scorpio Petr Thank you guys! thumbsup

Until next time!

Regards

Hello Everyone

The marshals decided to drive the opposite direction of the the 5th. AGA. I am sure the members couldn't recognise that. The drive was against the wind direction and against the sun.

That was the reason the organiser decided to make it 10+ level and Daggerfall made sure to maintain that level.

We had a great drive till the sunset. Thanks Yoghybear , Mark B & Agalon to stay and the end of the drive to cooool down my hot headed ride arr.

Till next time, drive safely and see you in the Egges in the Basket game.

Cheers

While in the morning drive I got the role of a second lead, in the afternoon I was asked to sweep, so the opposite place in the convoy. It was not an easy track, Daggerfall took us through crests of dunes, a lot of soft sand patches and brought the convoy to practice side cresting (very useful guys, remember for later :-)), but everyone did really great. We had just one pop out. At the beginning we lost one car whose driver decided to pass and another with a passenger having a motion sickness. alshamsi_m and Agalon took care to escort the cars and returned back soon and then the convoy adopted a fast and uninterrupted pace.

Agalon, Bu Salem, Yoghybear and visiting Mark B took care of anyone needing help so my work was really easy on that day.

It was an excellent track and everyone in the convoy did great. Good luck guys with your EIB challenge next week and send some videos, I will exchange it for faces of sharks in the Red Sea where I am going to dive while writing this report in Merhaba lounge cool

One word.....: AWESOMMMMMMMME!!!
I absolutely loved the drive, it was epic, it was fast, it was technical, it was holy moly.
Our convoy went smoothly and yours truly, the one and only kals was second lead. There weren’t any major issues with convoy, the few second tries here and there. Booy was an amazing lead, it was side crest after side crest after side crest, I still tingle remembering it. Only negative from my side was the popped airbag, but so you think that stopped me? Nope! Cut those little things off and push my way through! We found a lost patrol in the desert with 2 pop outs and no 4wd hence we had to stop and help him out, took us a while since his car was dead and he had 6 eagle son the car worth my apartments price😂😂😂... and guess who towed him out....... epic drum rolll.... The Juggggernaut!!!!!!!! However I have to tip my hat to Barish he did most of the work!!
Again the drive was fast and the convoy was going well, again I was second lead so all I was focusing on is keeping up with the top dog, the Marshall leading the car feast through the crests!

Have you heard about a fast but technical newbie drive? arr. Well this only happens in with Almost4x4.

Its not just another 10+ drive,, my passenger nor myself were expecting such a ride,, my passenger tabubaker had a relaxed drive to the meeting point on his bike, he parked his bike, stepped into the FJ, put his helmet in the back seat,, after few moments on sand, the helmet was back on his head.. ORLY He put it back or the pumpy ride did? Well,, I didn’t catch that moment.
Booy with the Partol wasn’t different than Booy with the FJ,, or he was? ;) , I believe he pushed the convoy to their limit, due to fast paced drive some drivers couldn’t catchup so the convoy was stretched to kilometers but support team where able bring it back together.. Thanks to JockJKU, Barish, Issa and Youssef.Abdelhady
Half way of the track, and to ensure safety of the convoy, Booy did some tuning and reshuffling of few cars positions.
While driving, my passenger asked, who is driving the red Jeep, I told him that’s giorgio but I didn’t see him at the meeting point! Maybe he arrived later! I was shocked with the skill he got,, he is only a few weeks in intermediate!! Whats happening to the guys there? Until I realized that was JockJKU
Few kilometers before the end of the drive, a dead and buried patrol were discovered, carrying seven fancy falcons, while driver has no clue of whats going on, we decided to rescue him, taking into consideration car got two pop outs, no brakes, no 4wd, dead engine and weak towing points.
The contribution of Issa , Barish and the brave Kals was instrumental to the successful recovery. And I was instrumental at my domain,, fixing popouts..Thanks to the Geolanders thumbsup … Amazing job by many brave members…Nashama wallah. ninja
In summary was a FasTical drive with a club that leaves no one behind!

See you in EIB.

Hello everyone,

I just lost my trip report - submitted it, and then it disappeared TT TT

Attempt number 2:

Thanks to the great support from Explorers, Marshals, Founders, Intermediates and Advance drivers, it was possible to take the members in the waiting list too, and make 2 x 10+ convoys.

@Daggerfall took one convoy, and I took one convoy.

As the name of the drive suggested, we were going to surf the dunes, and our convoy did just that. Our drive started off with a good, fast pace. I was driving a "stolen car" and really enjoyed it. Thanks @Johanna for offering your car to me while mine is in a coma.

@Johanna (passenger in her own car) told me that if we keep up with this pace, we will reach the finish point in 30 minutes grin Well, it was a good time then to re-brief, and to let the adrenalin settle for some.... @JockJKU made some valuable observations, and again highlighted the correct side cresting technique, as he observed some dangerous crossings. Keep driving, and we will keep practicing these techniques.

@Kals did a good job as second lead, although he had to sacrifice the side window airbag curtains on the truck, when it decided to protect its driver from the angles he was putting it through.

At around 8km from our destination, I saw a boy waving at us from a distance. We went to see their situation, and to offer our help. I will let the other members tell the story about the Patrol and its precious cargo of Falcons that got stranded. When we realized that the rescue was going to take longer than anticipated, we offered to take the convoy out to the road before sunset, but no one wanted to leave. Everyone decided to stay and be part of the action and the rescue. Well done to everyone who climbed in and assisted. After the rescue, we took an easy way out to the road, where we inflated and said our goodbyes after a longer day in the desert.

I am looking forward to seeing you at Eggs in Basket next Friday - whether as participant, support, or observer.

Till then - take care.

Booy

Truly enjoyed this drive. It was one of the best ones I have ever had. Fast pace, plenty of side cresting.

Good we did not take the dog with us this time. He would be flying in the car...

Patrol needs definetly a tweak of the suspension. I postpone it forever, but the time approaches fast for stiffer coils. Too much banging with the bash plate at every abrupt shocks compression. It was chalenging to have to stop the car to almost standstill then to floor it to catch up with the convoy. BP51s struggle to compensate for the soft coils.

Plenty of learning during this drive. Side cresting most of all.

Cherry on the cake was the recovery of the Patrol. Mabubaker you are a hard working one with a big heart man.

Thank you Booy JockJKU Barish Issa and the inter in black FJ sweeping (Jusuf?) for looking after us.

See you next weekend at the Eggs Basket

Hello Everyone,

After quite a while, I enjoyed a technical drive because at Intermediate level we usually do fast paced drives on big dunes so don’t get much technical drives unless we register as a rescue in a newbie drive that happens to be in such an area. I love such drives and would say that it provides you the opportunity to learn about your car (throttle response, difference in the performance due to different tire pressures, difference in the handling if you have passengers in the car or if you have full tank especially for dual tank FJs because it adds to the weight which makes the difference in technical drives, etc...). The more you do technical drives the more you would develop the realization of these factors and the more better driver you would become as an off-roader. I would like to thank Booy for organizing this drive and Daggerfall for his immaculate lead of the convoy in was in.

Due to the big number of 10+ registered members, there were two convoys made; one to be lead by Booy and other to be by Daggerfall. I was assigned to be the 2nd lead in Daggerfall’s convoy and Petr was sweeping. alshamsi_m, Yoghybear and Agalon were flying around for guidance. We had a very nice drive from Lisaili to Qudra and practiced how to keep the eggs safe in the basket . Couple of cars had some issue in the beginning and were escorted back to the road by Bu Salem and Agalon who later joined back the convoy in no time thumbsup . There were two nasty climbs Psmiley during the drive and it was fun to be challenged. At of the first one, after Daggerfall climbed I tried but half way to the top I lost the momentum and had to come down; then what I saw was that Bu Salem in his McCloud was coming steaming towards that climb and he made a new track and the way he climbed it gave the impression that it’s easy; but actually it wasn’t and that was McCloud’s magic thumbsup. After he climbed, I had my second try and tried to follow McCloud’s path. However, FJs is heavier and I started feeling that I am loosing power again so instead of going up straight I turned the car slightly to the right and then to the left to make the snake line to gain traction and it worked perfectly for me 8-). Later, when I checked my tire pressure, it was 12; I had started with 10/9 in front and back tires respectively – small changes in the psi makes the difference as I said before brigade.baka-wolf.com. We had one pop-out on that climb and it was sorted out quickly without causing much of the delay to the convoy. The second climb was supposedly more bumpy and after Daggerfall and I climbed the convoy was hold for others to climb and join back. There were many areas where the sand was really soft and one can easily feel the car sinking at lower momentum but that was the practice all about and it was an amazing feeling. We saw couple of other clubs also driving in the same area and Daggerfall always used to keep us safe and was changing the path in a way that we remain safe and don’t get close to them while still enjoying the technical nature of the drive thumbsup.

The drive ended at Qudra where we inflated and had a little chit-chat before leaving back home. I enjoyed my time in the sand with you guys and had another learning day.

Great to see you Mark B and it was a pleasure to talk to you as always.

See you guys soon..

Cheers 8-)

Morning All!

This is a great area, filled with lots of technical fun, which i happen to like a lot!! I was with Booy who picked a fast pace and a great track which was perfect for what i would call a medium level 10+ drive!

The briefing at the start included a tutorial on correct side cresting technique which was perfectly clear. After the first 20 minutes or so it became a bit clearer that a re-brief was required with a re-shuffle of the convoy to help it flow better. I am glad i did not eat too much for lunch (well, less than normal!) as i though i would be rejecting it at some points during the drive due to anxiety! haha

This was a very nice technical drive, with plenty of crossings and a few sidecrests thrown in to keep everyone on their toes!

We managed to find a stranded Patrol which delayed us a lot and we finally made it to the exit around 8pm i guess - i had given up checking the time by then! haha

Thanks to Booy for the lead, Barish who was everywhere and did 99% of the work to get the patrol out! Thanks to Kals for doing the remaining 1% and taking the glory of getting the patrol out! haha

Till next time,

Jock

Hi All,

This one was very fast paced and the track was challenging from start to finish, I needed to really concentrate to keep up with the demand of maneuvering the dunes and ensuring you did it right and safely. Only practice will make me better, hope to get more opportunities in time to better myself.

Thanks for the opportunity and feedback shared by @Jock and @Booy
